Xiaomi’s first SUV spotted road-testing expected by 2025

A set of spy shots of what appears to be Xiaomi’s first SUV undergoing road tests in China. This is the follow-up to the successful Xiaomi SU7 that sold 8,646 units in May. The new vehicle, codenamed MX11, is anticipated to be officially unveiled in 2025.

The leaked images reveal that the new car is heavily camouflaged, yet the distinctive design language of the Xiaomi SU7 (see specs) is still apparent. The front end boasts a sleek design, integrated with headlights reminiscent of the Xiaomi sedan. The Xiaomi SU7 uses a pebble-style roof-mounted lidar which is also found on this car.

Its streamlined roofline extends to the rear indicating it is a coupe SUV. Paying detailed attention to the side rear-view mirrors, side cameras, yellow brake calipers, five-spoke wheels, and an exposed tail-light echo the design elements of the Xiaomi SU7, showcasing the brand’s consistency in design.

Previously, Xiaomi CEO, Lei Jun, emphasized that Xiaomi’s first vehicle would be a “dream car” for the masses, delivering the Xiaomi SU7 with a designed language inspired by Porsche and McLaren. Similarly, while MX11 from the spy shots retains the design elements that match the Xiaomi SU7, the side profile of the car bears a resemblance to the Ferrari Purosangue. This is perhaps another “dream car” that Xiaomi will produce for the average Joe. We may view this as an extension of Xiaomi’s smartphone business philosophy of delivering a “flagship killer,” where the product provides 80% of the functions of its competitor yet costs only 30% of the original.

Currently, detailed information about the Xiaomi MX11 remains scarce. However, there have been several leaks regarding Xiaomi’s third vehicle model. This upcoming car is expected to use budget-friendly batteries from Sunwoda. It is slated for a 2026 release with an estimated price of around 150,000 yuan (21,000 USD).

Xiaomi is one of the fastest-growing newcomers to join the EV race in China. It delivered its 20,000th SU7 on June 13, just two and a half months after the model’s launch on March 28. The company anticipates delivering 120,000 units of the SU7 in 2024.
